Introduction
A remark made by García Lorca in an interview granted to Lluís Bagaria, published in the newspaper El Sol, regarding the increasingly palpable nationalism in Spanish society at the time. Two months later, on August 19, 1936, García Lorca was assassinated. Lluís Bagaria went into exile, first in Paris and later in Havana.

L.B: Don't you think, Federico, that the homeland is nothing, that borders are bound to disappear? Why should a bad Spaniard be more of a brother to us than a good Chinese person?
G.L: I am an integral Spaniard, and it would be impossible for me to live outside my geographical boundaries; but I hate anyone who is Spanish simply for the sake of being Spanish. I am a brother to everyone, and I execrate the man who sacrifices himself for an abstract nationalist idea, solely because he loves his homeland with a blindfold over his eyes. The good Chinese person is closer to me than the bad Spaniard. I sing to Spain and feel it to the core; but before that, I am a man of the world and a brother to all. Naturally, I do not believe in political borders.
